Under the slogan "united we stand strong", which is also its national motto, Bulgaria will take over the presidency of the EU Council for the first time from 1 January to 30 June 2018.
The Bulgarian presidency focuses on four key areas: the future of Europe and young people - economic growth and social cohesion; European perspective and connectivity of the Western Balkans; security and stability in a strong and united Europe; and digital economy and skills for the future.
In the field of education and training, the following priorities were identified:
- Mid-term evaluation and setting up the orientations of the Erasmus+ programme after 2020;
- Equipping learners and teachers with digital skills;
- Adoption of the new mandates of the Working Groups in the European framework for Education and Training 2018-2020;
- Adoption of a Council Recommendation on common values, inclusive education and the European dimension of teaching;
- Revision of the Recommendation of the EP and of the Council of 18 December 2006 on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning.
